This pack contains questions in standard format. These tests are an excellent aid in preparing children for their 11+ or 12+ examinations. They offer practice questions similar to the Moray House Tests and NFER tests as used in eg Bucks and by the SW Herts consortium.

They can also be used in preparing children for grammar school, independent and private school selection tests or for common entrance examinations.

These challenging questions are a type of Verbal Reasoning question that many children (and adults) find difficult.

This question type requires the child to deal with a number of pieces of information at the same time and this can be very demanding. (A grid may assist the child to put the information into a simpler format.)

Verbal Reasoning involves the child thinking about words and text and solving problems, sequences etc all mostly related to language. It requires the pupil to have a good grasp of English grammar and a wide vocabulary. In some Verbal Reasoning selection tests there may be some number based questions such as number sequences or inserting a missing number.

Most schools and Local Authorities administer at least one Verbal Reasoning test. You should check requirements with your Local Authority or school.
