Both the AQE and GL Transfer Tests require that your child has a sound understanding of the maths that they have been taught in school and they need to revise this work both in school and at home. Both versions of these exams challenge your child's knowledge of all aspects of Mathematics and structured practice is essential to aid your child in preparing for this important exam.
Maths tests examine just how well your child can work quickly and accurately with numbers. To be able to do this efficiently your child must be able to calculate and think quickly, they must know their table facts very well so that there is quick recall of number facts and number bonds. They must have developed the ability to apply all four number operations quickly and understand the relationship between these four mathematical operations.
In the Transfer Test, there will almost certainly be maths questions that involve problem solving. This type of maths question is often the question type that many children find most difficult. It will involve your child reading the word-based question, sorting out what is being asked and then applying their mathematical knowledge to solve the question correctly.
These problems could involve addition and subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication and division, perimeter, area or any combination of these and all the other maths concepts that your child will have been taught during their normal day-to-day school work. They will also have revised and reinforced these concepts in their homework and classwork.
These maths revision papers contain 10 tests of 50 questions each based on the requirements of the Northern Ireland Curriculum at Key Stage 2. The tests cover aspects of Maths such as algebra, measures, shape and space and data handling. This is a comprehensive publication making use of a wide variety of question types. Knowledge of all these items will help prepare any child for the demands of any school exam not just their Transfer Tests.
It offers practice questions similar to those used in both the AQE Transfer Test and the GL Assessment Test.
These maths practice booklets give children an opportunity to experience the demands and pressure of mathematical tests in the security and comfort of their own home and so can help to reduce any anxiety.
No time limit is given and this allows parents to encourage their child to work through the tests at the child's own pace. The level of mathematical language will be very beneficial for future tests.
Detachable answers and a mathematical glossary are included.
As with all Learning Together titles we encourage the involvement of parents to explain the answers to the child and to work alongside their child offering support and encouargement. Parental support is crucial to a child's success in their schoolwork. Preparing for the Transfer Tests is no different.
